Why

The Good Lobby Fossil-Free Finance Lab is a tailored programme designed to strengthen the EU-level movement advocating for a shift away from fossil fuel finance.

As global temperatures rise, altering weather patterns and disrupting ecosystems, the European and international financial systems continue to fund billions of dollars in fossil fuel projects. This persists despite the substantial funding gap needed to achieve a carbon-neutral society.

Yet, as argued by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, a systemic shift in climate finance is urgently needed. Recently, he has called for an end to fossil fuel financing, stressing that without redirecting investments towards renewable energy, global climate goals will be unattainable.

As the new EU legislative term begins and policymakers are approaching the urgent discussion on how to fund the green transition, there’s a need to amplify at the EU level the voices of citizens calling to divert finance away from fossil fuels and towards projects ensuring long-term climate neutrality.

Aims

The Lab is meant to upskill a select cohort of nonprofit organisations, grassroots movements, activists, as well as other initiatives interested in advocating against the fossil fuel industry at the national and/or European level, helping them scale up or further professionalise their advocacy efforts at the EU level.

Format

Through a hands-on approach, the Lab will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to start navigating the EU decision-making process and adopt a lobbyist-like mindset.

The programme will run from November 2024 to February 2025 and will include approximately six training sessions, along with small exercises to complete between sessions.
