Despite the exceptional geopolitical situation and rapidly changing times this year, The Good Lobby has made remarkable progress in 2024. From a policy perspective, we succeeded in having the EU establish the 1st EU Ethics Body, the 1st EU Commissioner for Future Generations and all Commission meetings will be made public as of the new year. This is something to celebrate!

✅ Democratising the EU Ombudsman Election
We foster the first public campaign among the six candidates running for the EU Ombudsman. Written Questions | Webinar Recording
✅ Increasing Transparency in EU Commission Meetings
We spearheaded calls for greater transparency in EU Commission interactions, ensuring European democracy remains accountable.
✅ Appointing the First EU Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness
As a founding member of the Future Generations Coalition, we called for the appointment of the 1st European Commissioner dedicated to intergenerational Fairness—ensuring EU policies are made with future generations in mind.
✅ Design the first EU Ethics Body
Thanks to our work, the EU has recently approved the first EU Ethics Body to monitor EU officials such as MEPs and Commissioners to avoid conflicts of interest.
✅ Empowering Civil Society to Influence EU Election Manifestos
We provided essential guidance to influence Europarties’ manifestos ahead of the 2024 elections, amplifying citizen voices in shaping EU priorities. We also unpacked and ranked the Euro Manifestos under the lens of crucial topics.
✅ Standing Up for Rule of Law
We lodged a formal complaint against Viktor Orbán to hold the Hungarian presidency accountable for undermining European democratic values. Additionally, The Good Lobby Profs contributed to the Shadow Rule of Law Report to shine a light on the state of the rule of law in the EU. We also examined how effective the EU Commission is in enforcing respect for EU law.
✅ Capacity-building
We launched a successful second edition of The Good Lobby EU Masterclass and designed the first Fossil Free Finance Lab. In addition to these deep-dive programmes, we trained thousands of participants from over 100 organisations on topics such as climate justice, anti-racism and anti-discrimination, animal welfare, participatory democracy, interreligious dialogue, and more.
