After months of speculation, Von der Leyen’s Commission unveiled its major political document of its mandate, the so called Competitiveness Compass.

This is not about simplifying the EU regulatory environment but to accelerate its deregulation, granting corporate lobbyists unprecedented influence while side lining social and environmental protections.

Framing regulation as a burden, the agenda weakens safeguards, fast-tracks administrative procedures, and allows businesses to shape and roll back EU laws.

Civil society including The Good Lobby has strongly opposed these moves, with over 270 organisations urging von der Leyen to abandon deregulation—so far without response.
