Alberto Alemanno honoured as Social Innovation Leader of the Year by the World Economic Forum.

The Good Lobby is delighted to announce that its Founder, Professor Alberto Alemanno, has been recognised as the Social Innovation Thought Leader of the Year in recognition of his innovative approaches and demonstrated impact. This recognition is issued by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, which, in partnership with the World Economic Forum, is a leading global platform that accelerates models of social innovation to scale solutions and support people in need.

Professor Alemanno received the award on Tuesday, January 18 14:00 CET. You can watch here the 30 minutes award ceremony, featuring a panel discussion featuring Alemanno and other recipients. The Award was announced live as part of the Davos Agenda 2020, which is the virtual version of the World Economic Forum held each January. Due to the pandemic, an in-person Davos, which Alemanno will attend, is anticipated to be held in June 2022.

With this award, Professor Alemanno joins an esteemed group of thought leaders in a world-class three-year program, during which his scholarship and work on political and social innovation will be showcased and scaled up globally. Past recipients include Julia Battilana (Harvard Kennedy School), Roberto Unger (Harvard Law School) and Peter Senge (MIT).

I am honoured to receive this recognition at a critical time not only for climate, but also for many other social, environmental and political systems on which our democracies depend. By now, it’s becoming clear that companies should not only care about their environmental and social impact, but also about their ‘democracy footprint’, to credibly pursue their sustainability agenda” said Alemanno while welcoming the news.

An internationally recognised legal scholar and public interest advocate, Alemanno’s mission is to equalise access to power by making corporate political influence more accountable and sustainable while strengthening the advocacy capacity of civil society. In 2017, Alemanno also authored Lobbying for Change: Find Your Voice to Create a Better Society, an influential book aimed at demystifying and democratising lobbying as a legitimate form of democratic participation. As succinctly put by TED, “Alemanno succeeded in showing that lobbying doesn’t have to be a dirty word”, provided it is used more responsibly by the few (corporations) and more often by the many, such as nonprofits, social entrepreneurs as well as citizens to promote their missions and solutions. Alemanno is also the author of several related articles and books, such as “Nudge and the Law”, edited by Bloomsbury.

He continues this work through his leadership of The Good Lobby, a registered non-profit committed to enhancing the advocacy capacity of civil society organisations, philanthropies, and progressive companies, while also shaping the corporate lobbying environment to be more ethical, sustainable, and transparent.
