In 2019, only 42% of eligible voters in the age bracket 16/18-24 turned out for the European Parliament (EP) elections. This is drastically below the participation rates in national elections of many Member States and highlights a deep-rooted detachment of young EU citizens from the EU. Vote4OurRuleofLaw fellowship is here to change it!
Vote4OurRuleofLaw Fellowship, a six-weeks-long research programme that aims to provide first-time voters with the necessary tools to cast an informed vote in the upcoming EP elections.
The program offers a curriculum covering, inter alia, voter motivation among youth, the link between national issues and EU policies, the critical role of rule of law in European democracy, and a practical overview of the EP and EU decision-making processes.
The Fellowship will run from the 18th of March until the 26th of April and has three core elements. Firstly, to grasp the content of the programme, the Fellows will be placed in working groups, where they will complete weekly research tasks and attend lectures by professionals in the relevant fields. As a part of the Fellows will meet in Berlin for a two-day-long Bootcamp at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on the 4th and 5th of April 2024. Lastly, at the end of the Vote4OurRuleofLaw Fellowship, all Fellows will be co-authors of a report, encapsulating all fellowship findings, designed to guide first-time voters in the EP elections. This final output integrates insights from weekly outputs and the bootcamp, offering a holistic view of the electoral participation and decision-making process
