Following the results of the EU elections, The Club of Rome, alongside EIT Climate-KIC and Metabolic, has issued a crucial call to action. This initiative urges all political parties, including the European People’s Party (EPP), to reaffirm their commitment to the European Green Deal.
The European Green Deal stands as Europe’s guiding framework to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, ensuring a fair transition across energy, transport, agriculture, and other critical sectors. Supported by scientific evidence and widespread public demand, its implementation is essential not just for environmental sustainability but also for economic resilience and democratic integrity.
Alberto Alemanno, founder of The Good Lobby and a signatory of the call, underscores its significance, stating: “Time has come to hold our political leaders accountable on their multiple promises towards net zero for our continent. talk is cheap but political delivery is costly”
With over 250 endorsements from policymakers, researchers, and business leaders, this call emphasises the urgent need for unified political commitment to prioritise the European Green Deal in the new parliamentary agenda.
As political landscapes shift, maintaining commitment to the Green Deal is non-negotiable. It’s not just about politics but about securing Europe’s future against climate challenges and ensuring economic stability.
